Motivation edit

Notified participants of WikiProject Ancient Greece

Notified participants of WikiProject Ancient Rome @JBradyK:, creator of ToposText, expressed me his interest in aligning the website with Wikidata. The website contains the most important texts of ancient Greek and classical Latin literature, with places and people marked in order to see which places/people are cited in which texts: it will be greatly useful for classical scholars and connection with Wikidata will help in further improving some data (especially disambiguating some people). --Epìdosis 17:51, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  •   Comment The targets for this property are not instances of written work (Q47461344) or literary work (Q7725634), but are version, edition or translation (Q3331189). All that I've looked at are English translations of Classical literature, and as such they require their own separate data items so that properties can be added to code data about the translation, such as the translator, language, year of publication, etc. All 749 instances where this property was match with a work will need to be removed and corrected. --EncycloPetey (talk) 21:09, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • @EncycloPetey: This is a good observation, but as this property has already been created I would recommend bringing it up on the property talk page and pinging relevant users. The property constraints can be updated accordingly if you feel confident. --SilentSpike (talk) 22:07, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
      • I have commented there and on the Talk page of the user who proposed the property. I have not worked with property pages directly, so I do not feel confindent making edits. Both the property constraints and the examples of correct usage will need to be changed. --EncycloPetey (talk) 22:17, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
