Wikidata:Property proposal/Washington Flora Checklist ID
Washington Flora Checklist family ID edit
Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Natural science
Motivation edit
The Washington Flora Checklist aims to be a complete list of the native and naturalized vascular plants of Washington State, with current classifications, nomenclature and synonymy. The checklist currently contains 3,819 accepted terminal taxa, of which 2,671 are native. Because the formatter for families and species is different, I am proposing two properties, one for families and one for species. UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 19:54, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
Discussion edit
@UWashPrincipalCataloger: Are you sure there are only 159 ids? The download contains more than 30.000 ids, but none for families. It's not possibile linking to Antennaria howellii subsp. howellii (Q24688095) via the id only. --Succu (talk) 20:22, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Succu: The statistics page says that there are 159 accepted families in the checklist. I've made a separate proposal for the accepted species, subspecies, varieties, and hybrids, which total 4,638. UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 20:40, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- Strong oppose Whaterver the goals of Wikidata:WikiProject PCC Wikidata Pilot are, we don't need a new property for 159 "ids"! --Succu (talk) 21:37, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose --Pteropotamus Changed initial support to oppose because it was demonstrated that Washington Flora Checklist taxon ID will work for families (talk) 09:20, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
- Support --Emwille (talk) 13:11, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
- Support. Thierry Caro (talk) 17:00, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Pteropotamus, Emwille, Thierry Caro: Superfluous proposal. See Wikidata:Property_proposal/Natural_science#Washington_Flora_Checklist_taxon_ID. --Succu (talk) 21:40, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
- Succu it seems to me that while this proposal and Wikidata:Property_proposal/Natural_science#Washington_Flora_Checklist_taxon_ID are similar, this one applies to ID's for families and the other to species and lower taxa. Are you saying that this proposal should be withdrawn because of the number of identifiers it includes? Or that one of these proposed properties could cover both groups of identifiers? --Crystal Clements, University of Washington Libraries (talk) 02:54, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Crystal Clements, University of Washington Libraries: Washington Flora Checklist taxon ID works for families, genera, species and infraspecific names. --Succu (talk) 06:34, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

- Support --Jala360 [Comments: I don't care if one ID will work for another one, we are talking here about unique vocabularies and unique IDs, so I support this.] 20:37, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
- In fact, dear Jala360, this proposal has nothing to do with (curated) vocabularies. In fact it is about how to link best to a webpage. For different approaches we have formatter URL (P1630). --Succu (talk) 21:43, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
- @UWashPrincipalCataloger: I think this property now is not needed any more as Washington Flora Checklist ID (P9408) covers it, do you want to withdraw it? --Emu (talk) 21:30, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Emu: The link goes to a different page that has complete information about the family and its members, so I'd prefer to keep it. There is a link to get to these family pages from Washington Flora Checklist ID (P9408) though, so if there isn't sufficient support to create it as a separate property, I can live with that. UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 00:17, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Emu: If there is not enough support to create it, then I suppose I have no choice. ;) UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 03:14, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
- @UWashPrincipalCataloger, Succu, Pteropotamus, Emwille, Thierry Caro, Clements.UWLib: Not done: Over the past 10 months, no one has wished to speak on this property, the lack of consensus is evident. —MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 06:16, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
