Motivation edit

We do not have a property to separate a normal YouTube channel (Q17558136) and an Official Artist Channel (Q72112388). An Official Artist Channel (Q72112388) is type of YouTube channel that has special features for artists and is distinguished by the note icon next to the channel name. You can learn more about what it is here.

We should have a separate property rather than qualifying YouTube channel ID (P2397) because there are likely thousands of artists that have an Official Artist Channel (Q72112388) that have items on Wikidata so this property is relevant enough for a dedicated property.

  •   Oppose This is similar to having a verified Twitter account, and this should in my opinion better be distinguished through a qualifier since the one making a query may not care about if it is an official channel or not and to get all would be very tricky if it was modeled this way.     • @Ainali Well if you leave this to people adding qualifiers, people will likely not add them and people who want to query for all the artists and their Official Artist Channels on Wikidata will not be able reliably do so. I would argue that the high number of entries is relevant, and that is why people might want to query for it. A reason why a distinction between an official artist channel and a normal channel is if a person might have both. For example, a YouTube who became an artist and wanted to keep all their artist-related content on one channel. Or, an artist who no longer releases music and is now a YouTuber with a seperate channel for content non-music related. Finally, not all artists are active on YouTube and may not have an Official Artist Account. Somebody might want to query for those artists. Lectrician1 (talk) 15:01, 15 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    If data is missing, querying is of course impossible. But that could hardly be the reason to add a new property because the people who are not likely to add the qualifier are also not likely to be able to tell the difference between them.     @Ainali A YouTube artist channel has a sound icon next to the name and I'll even put that that indicator exists in the property description so that users know the difference. It's pretty easy to tell. Also, this property will be a subproperty of YouTube channel ID (P2397) so querying shouldn't be different if you query with regards to subproperties too.
    Then again, these are minor things compared to not having the data at all. You know already: people don't add qualifiers if they don't know they exist for that use and don't want to because it's a pain. Lectrician1 (talk) 20:39, 15 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
