based on tabular data edit
Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Commons
Description | Commons tabular data file that a Commons file (or statement) derives from |
---|---|
Represents | table (Q496946), based on (Q30171963) |
Data type | Tabular data |
Domain | Commons file; also as a qualifier on statements; and perhaps in a reference |
Allowed values | Data:.*\.tab |
Example 1 | File:Commons Growth.svg → Data:Commons_Milestones.tab |
Example 2 | georeferencing mask geoshape statement → Data:Pigot_and_Co_(1842)_p2.138_-_Map_of_Lancashire.gcps.tab |
Source | Data: namespace on Commons |
Planned use | Qualify "georeferencing_mask_geoshape" statements |
See also | based on (P144) |
Motivation edit
Needed to link Commons files to data that was used to generate them, if we hold it.
Also, in georeferencing, needed to identify which gcps file was used to generate a mask file. Jheald (talk) 09:21, 17 August 2019 (UTC)

- Template:WS Looks important too. --Juandev (talk) 20:17, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- Comment - Commons also has
.map
files in theData:
namespace, and i could imagine they might get more types in the future. Wouldn't it be better to rename this to 'based on Commons data file' and allow any file available in theData:
namespace? Husky (talk) 11:25, 15 January 2020 (UTC) - I'd see this more as a general 'derivative work'/'based on' relation, but there is probably a datatypes problem here? And the map point by husky also seems a good point. TheDJ (talk) 12:27, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
- Support Makes sense. See also the addition of subtypes like tabular case data. Sj (talk) 15:42, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
