Planned useI'd first use it outside Wikidata, in semantic web courses hosted at Wikiversity where I sometimes use dance as an example; I'm also interested in editing Wikidata to incorporate the property in items of some choreographers whose work I follow.

Motivation edit

This property is inspired by the use of property sport (P641) as applied to sport practitioners and organizations. It would allow expressing statements as in the examples above, where "X dance_style Y", is more flexible than "X occupation dance_style_Y_er" (e.g., "belly dancer"). It also allows easily relating people and institutions and, for institutions, the need for this flexibility is clear as dance schools often teach many different dances and can't simply be designed as an instance of "belly dance school" or "ballet school"; for people, many of today's more popular choreographers and dancers span and mix several genres, and one can't simply class them by occupation as "ballet dancer" or "break dancer", and things also get complicated with dances that don't fit the spectator/professional structure, such as Brazilian Carnival (Q2390665) and folk dance (Q201022). --Solstag (talk) 14:51, 26 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

PS: seems like I messed up and the proposal page doesn't have the right name, it's name is "danse" (in French) instead of "dance" or "dance style". I hope this doesn't matter but I can't rename it. --Solstag (talk) 14:57, 26 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
