Motivation edit
Following the discussion at Wikidata:Project_chat/Archive/2020/09#Wikipedia_in_described_at_URL_(P973)_?, the idea is to move the sitelinks to sections from P973 to this new property. Given the volume of links recently added (>2000), creating sitelinks to redirects doesn't seem practical. The statement with this property can be removed once there is a sitelink to the Wikipedia language version (Add your motivation for this property here.) --- Jura 11:23, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

Discussion edit
- Support I think this would be useful as a measure of the degree of the redirect problem. ArthurPSmith (talk) 17:49, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- Weak support Not a big fan of this but it seems preferable to having sitelinks point to redirects. NMaia (talk) 06:14, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
- Comment I would say it will be hard to maintain for cases where the section is renamed. Pamputt (talk) 17:30, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose It looks like a maintenance nightmare (what happens when the article or section header is renamed?), sitelinks to redirects and handling the links to the sections on the appropriate wiki (where hopefully they would be maintained) would work better, or just don't include the link. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 18:30, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
- Comment @Pamputt, Mike Peel: this is a problem we already have with these 2000 values in described at URL (P973) and, to some extent, with any sitelink to a redirect. The proposal is mostly an effort to improve P973, similar to what is being done with other autofixes there. With all the sitelinks in one property, subsequent analysis and maintenance efforts can be simplified. --- Jura 19:50, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
- I would prefer that Wikidata uses the redirect to solve this "problem". Pamputt (talk) 19:52, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Jura1: More background information might be useful - why do we need to store these URLs, what are they used for? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 20:00, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Pamputt, Mike Peel: I don't have more info on the question than the linked project chat discussion. It also addresses why redirects aren't practical. I came across them when reviewing P973 values. --- Jura 20:11, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose I read the discussion referred by Jura, but I would also prefer sitelinks to redirects than using this property. MSGJ (talk) 11:09, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- @MSGJ, Pamputt, Mike Peel: What are your suggestions for the 2000 described at URL (P973)-statements? Should we just delete them? In the way Wikidata currently works, personally I don't like any of the approaches .. but that's another question. The above proposal seems to be the least sub-optimal. --- Jura 11:20, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- I do not really like described at URL (P973) but there is no better alternative. IMHO, the problem described here could be better solved using redirect. So I would not say it is the same problem because we have a technical solution that we cannot apply with described at URL (P973) Pamputt (talk) 13:21, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- I'm not really convinced we have a technical solution (but I hope you can demonstrate that this is incorrect). In the meantime, I think we should avoid mixing this into P973. --- Jura 06:49, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

- Oppose Sitelinks to redirects should be used for this function since they allow for interwiki links and third-party users who want to go to the Wikipedia article that's an item is about are also going to use sitelinks. Existing out of scope use of described at URL (P973) should be removed and it's scope clarified via "usage instructions". ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 15:22, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Anvilaquarius, Kam Solusar, GZWDer: what are your thoughts on the additional feedback above?
- @Anvilaquarius: maybe @ChristianKl: can help you mass create the redirects on dewiki. --- Jura 12:22, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
