•  Comment wouldn't external identifiers be a better solution? The structure of URLs could vary even within the same service and if we want to exchange data with these services later on identifiers would make everything much easier. Abbe98 (talk) 08:12, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

@Abbe98: There's no consistency in the URL forms even from a single map supplier on a single site. The BL ones don't necessarily match ones used for that content anywhere else; and if they did change the platform, they wouldn't necessarily keep the identifiers. Much as I am usually a proponent of identifiers, in this case I think urls are the right way forward. (And it also helps the template on Commons if it only has to deal with one property, not different ones for each site). Jheald (talk) 20:31, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
