Motivation edit

This is a common aggregate statistic in motorsports. Fastest laps are a discrete and widely cited statistic, making it perfect for a property. It cannot be reached by calculation reliably for several reasons: 1) The database of individual events is incomplete, thus simply counting the number of entities for which a driver completes the fastest lap will not capture the correct total. 2) For many series, especially historically, detailed event records are incomplete (not just on WD, but in the public record in general), whereas aggregate counts are available in some sources. 3) Several sources only provide aggregate totals for a career or season, and not individual event details. Thus an aggregate fastest lap total is necessary to capture this information. Josh Baumgartner (talk) 01:10, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion edit

Working on motorcycle road racing (Q965550), particularly endurance motorcycle racing (Q15732689), I could use a related property, namely, the duration of one individual rider's and/or team's fastest lap during a race and/or a practice session within a specific event, ideally it would accept a qualifier to mention in which lap this fastest time has been recorded ( information often stated in the race's as well as in the different practice session's time sheets ). I'd favor trying to think ahead about as many as possible use cases for related properties "linked" to the same "concept".

Several usage examples :

1/ Used in a motorcycle racing team (Q20784907) item ( Yoshimura SERT Motul (Q107026208) ) it could look like this :

nb : there are more qualifiers after laps completed (P5349) but it seems Template:Statement+ doesn't accept more values than what's shown.

or, a more specific variation, but would need the creation of in lap property

Comment I don't believe this represents the item the proposal currently suggests it does (fastest lap would be the time of a singular fastest lap in a race/event/career/vehicle, right?). Whereas this proposal seems to be for an aggregate statistic for a given driver/team/etc. Marked unready until that can be clarified and/or corrected. Also to other future property creators: do not be confused by the first discussion point which is not directly related to the proposal. --SilentSpike (talk) 18:21, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
