Motivation

Musicbrainz provides the ability to add tags to all(?) their entity types. these tags may be applied freely without a review process but with a upvote/downvote function instead. 419 of these tags are so far officially recognized as music genres. tags recognized as genres may be requested as a ticket--Shisma (talk) 20:32, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

@Mahir256: genres also have a uuid: 7dc2b20f-3953-4874-b9bf-41b8ba06d20c → acid jazz, eba7715e-ee26-4989-8d49-9db382955419 → j-pop, e4581b76-a842-440b-9b0f-1aa7a00a5c57 → rock and roll. we could instead use those Shisma (talk) 08:42, 26 August 2019 (UTC)

I agree that the guids should be used, not the tag, as the tag could potentially change. By using the guids we will also get the benefit of automatic redirects when MB genres are merged or otherwise altered. Moebeus (talk) 16:14, 26 August 2019 (UTC)
