Descriptiongravitational acceleration experienced at astronomical body surface at the equator
Representssurface gravity (Q1758384)
Data typeQuantity
Template parametersurface_grav in en:Template:Infobox planet
DomainP31/P279* astronomical object (Q6999)
Allowed unitsgal (Q500515), metre per square second (Q1051665), centimetre per square second (Q39699418), milligal (Q56317116), etc (instance of (P31)unit of acceleration (Q39699875)
Example 1Earth (Q2) → 9.807 m/s2
Example 2Moon (Q405) → 1.62 m/s2
Example 3Sun (Q525) → 274.0 m/s2
Example 44 Vesta (Q3030) → 0.22 m/s2
SourceSIMBAD fe_h group of measurements (log_g column, need to be converted to absolute values)
Planned usepopulate data from simbad, utilize as is in ru:Шаблон:Планета, log10(cm/s2) in ru:Шаблон:Звезда

Motivation edit

Important astrophysics measurement, extensively used in star infocards Ghuron (talk) 07:53, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion edit

Comment The label should indicate it is a logarithm, or that it's a stellar metric (I would not have expected the logarithmic nature from the name "surface gravity"). ArthurPSmith (talk) 18:30, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well, in lua we have math.log(), so technically we can capture absolute values like Deimos (Q7548) → 0.003 m/s2 and present logarithms for stars --Ghuron (talk) 19:40, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I would support this property under that definition, especially as you plan to assign it to planets given the above examples. Can you modify the proposal to do this? ArthurPSmith (talk) 17:32, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@ArthurPSmith, ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2, NMaia: I've adjusted the definition above, please review --Ghuron (talk) 09:53, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
