Wikidata:Property proposal/webcam

webcam page URL edit

Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Place

Motivation

This would have been created earlier had Wikidata been established around 15 years ago, at the time of the now forgotten webcam (Q29576) craze. It would still be an interesting thing to store. I suggest the property should be used on items about the location where the camera is situated rather than about the filmed location, as webcams can sometimes move or maybe be mounted on vehicles. This means offers view on (P3173) could be slightly widened to serve as a qualifier. Thierry Caro (talk) 20:13, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion
I agree with having a webcam page property, but I think the filmed location should be allowed too. Some cameras are interesting because they point at a particular object and the actual location of the camera is just somewhere in the vicinity. For those, I think the most useful place and most intuitive place to put the URL is on the target of the camera, e.g. it seems bizarre to say that we can't add this to Yosemite Falls (Q491677) or this to Eiffel Tower (Q243). - Nikki (talk) 12:54, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Should we have two properties or just one for the filmed location? Or possibly a general 'webcam' property with no specification regarding which kind of item should be used. Thierry Caro (talk) 13:16, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

+1 to webcam property reserved for URLs to webcams. --Vojtěch Dostál (talk) 17:43, 12 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
