Task/s: Set page banner (P948) for Wikivoyage destinations.
Function details:
- Most banners are on the English Wikivoyage, so first run with the English Wikivoyage banners. Then maybe with other countries, not overwriting existing data.
- Does not upload:
- Generic banners (Asia, Welcome, Topic, etc). Only banners that have been specifically applied to an article in particular. On the English Wikivoyage, filtering out generic banners by filename pattern is easy. For each one of the other Wikivoyages, I will first ask for the list of generic filename patterns to exclude.
- Banners that are in "Category:Files to be kept locally" (usually copyright problems), or not on Commons. I will ask for the equivalent information in other Wikivoyages.
- Test run: Asahikawa (Q200740)
- Source of the data: Wikivoyage
- This will affect about 4000 items
- Source code concept: https://github.com/nicolas-raoul/BannerBot
- Banner project: http://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Wikivoyage:Banner_Expedition

- Could you please explain in more details, for example which banner would be selected if different Wikivoyage language versions use different banners? How would you deal with the banners which are present in the papers but are not related to the locality and thus should not be added to the property (see voy:ru:Лека?--Ymblanter (talk) 12:41, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- I agree with Ymblanter - Wikivoyages are using thematic banners, for example "Welcome banner.jpg" for phrasebooks, "Mena-asia_default_banner.jpg" for Asian localities, "S-amer africa default banner.jpg" for African localities. What should we do with these banners? Could we split thematic amd locality banners in the template? --Voll (talk) 14:24, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Thank you for the feedback! I added details. About Лека: it looks like a generic banner, so I guess it would be excluded, but I don't know for sure since I have yet asked the Russian-language Wikivoyage for their list of generic banners filename patterns. - Support Лека is indeed generic (I know as the main author of the article). I guess on voy:ru we should be able to compile an exclusion list.--Ymblanter (talk) 19:03, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
