Hello,
My name is Alaa (In Arabic: علاء). I am a native Arabic and near native English speaker. I created my account in October 2010, and I have been active (on a regular basis) since December 2014, so, I am active for over five years now. I am currently a Steward, a Sysop on Wikidata and Bureaucrat, Sysop, Checkuser on Arabic Wikipedia. Over the years, I have made more than 400K edits on Wikimedia wikis. In addition to this, I frequently spend time on various IRC channels. I'm sysop on Wikidata since 2017 (First ar-N Wikidata sysop), I'm dealing with a lot of trolls and vandals everyday, especially as a steward I'm fighting cross-wiki abuse/vandals/spammers and LTAs. I'm dealing with a lot of Checkuser requests mostly on SRCU. Also, I cooperated with a lot of local CUs and sysops to solve cross-wiki issues.
Wikidata is a global project that directly linked to all Wikimedia projects. Since I'm elected as a steward, I can't use CU tool on Wikidata to avoid COI. So usually I'm sending to other stewards via IRC mainly (email sometimes) and then waiting, so this causes delays in handling CU requests (usually socks and LTAs active on Wikidata). So after some thinking, I think that CU flag can help me in dealing with LTAs/abuser/socks more effectively on Wikidata, especially since I'm highly involved in Cross-Wiki Checks.
Finally, I have already signed the confidentiality agreements, and I'm on the UTC+2 timezone. Thank you for your time and consideration and don't hesitate to ask any questions. Best, --Alaa :)..! 07:17, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

- Neutral; I am still not convinced that we need local checkusers. No concerns about the candidate, however. --MisterSynergy (talk) 12:15, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- @MisterSynergy: The reason for the need of local CUs is that some spammers go crosswiki to create articles about the same subject with different accounts and come here to add links. So it'll be easier to flush them out rather than wiki-hunting. Minorax (talk) 13:30, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

- Support. To stop (for example) spammers, local CUs will be a huge help in my opinion. I know Alaa well enough to know that we must save our stewards before they will be smashed by Alaa's requests. Joking aside, thanks for volunteering! Bencemac (talk) 17:53, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

- Strong support Didn't know I will be #24 support. This is going pretty fast. I knew Alaa from SRCU in meta, he is very responsive to our requests and is very communicative to requestors of details they need w/o telling too much in contravention of NDA. His checks are always very through and detailed . Having them as a wikidata CU is clearly an asset which there is a lot of work to be done here and their ample crosswiki knowledge is valuable given here there are a ton of crosswiki abusers who inevitable left some trace which makes checks effective in preventing abuse. I am fully confident they will do the job well. Thanks for volunteering. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 12:15, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
