Wikidata:Username policy/Draft

Wikidata usernames should not be:

  1. Misleading, including deliberately impersonating other users, containing designated terms like "administrator", or the designations "WMF"/"WMDE" (excepting official accounts of users employed by those organisations), and confusing within the signature format.
  2. Disruptive, including attacking other users, or showing a clear intent to disrupt Wikidata.
  3. Promotional, including represent the name of a company, group, institution or product, or promoting a commercial web page.

Use common sense applies when judging whether a username is appropriate. Bear in mind that a string which is offensive in one language may be a common name in another. You may discuss with users with problematic usernames, and report blatant violations to Wikidata:Administrators' noticeboard. Users violating the username policy may be blocked, with "autoblock" and "prevent account creation" features usually disabled, and certain disruptive and offensive usernames may be suppressed from logs by Oversighters.

As Wikidata is edited by users from different wikis, users in good standing in any Wikimedia projects should not be blocked for username problems.
