2023 International Women's Day Edit-A-Thon edit

We have a number of different routes into our data, as we explained in a recent post on our blog If you are a resident of London, you might be interested in women who lived in your area of London.

Or, you might be interested in women who were associated with the Folklore Society

We have a list of women who were exhibiting and another one for women who were freelance lecturers

We also have 11 women who excavated at Colchester in the 1930s!

Click on an item or property in our database that you're interested in, and once you get to the entry for the item or property click "What Links Here" on the right hand side of the screen to see which women are linked to the item you've selected. Happy editing!

Victoria County History edit

In December 2022, we collaborated with the Victoria County History project and the Women's Classical Committee to organise a Wiki editathon that focused on women contributors to the Victoria County History project. You can find out more about these VCH women (and create/edit Wikidata entries for them) on our project blog post Women of the VCH Wiki edit-a-thon

Recognising Achievement edit

  • Ensure that women are listed as Fellows of the Society of Antiquaries of London, where they are listed as such on Beyond Notability.
  • listing women as Fellows of the Royal Historical Society where they are listed as such on Beyond Notability
  • listing women as Fellows of the Royal Anthropological Institute where they are listed as such on Beyond Notability
  • listing women as Fellows of the Royal Georgraphical Society where they are listed as such on Beyond Notability

Checking identifiers edit

  • Improve the quality of entries for women on wikidata by adding VIAF, ISNI, and Archaeology Data Service identifiers (using this query as a guide).

Data modelling edit

  • The Beyond Notability wikibase has developed an ontology for representing women's work in archaeology, history and heritage in the UK circa 1870-1950, to showcase the variety of work done by women that is not attached to employment or profession. Some of these are worth consideration for use of Wikidata. These include:
    • member of excavation during archaeological field work, a property used to identify the work of taking part in an archaeological excavation but not in the role of overall director
    • spoke at, a property used to identify the work of preparing and delivering research for public presentation at meetings of learned societies and large national and international conferences, a mark of the significance of a person's research
    • exhibited at, a property used to identify the work of presenting materials at meetings or participation in artistic culture through the preparation and acceptance of creative works for display at key venues
