Wikidata:WikiProject Government/Report/Monaco

Starting the project

edit

At the beginning of our project, we wanted to choose a smaller country to make things easier. We also wanted a country that had an official website so we could check the information on Wikidata against the official source.

Motivation

edit

Simplicity and Focus

edit

Our main goal was to make the project manageable and efficient. To do this, we decided to study a smaller country like Monaco. This helped us concentrate on a smaller amount of information, which made our research easier.

Smaller Country Selection
edit

We chose Monaco because it's a tiny country. This allowed us to focus on only the most important data about its government structure. We didn't have to deal with a lot of confusing information.

Understanding Monaco Better
edit

Since Monaco is small, we could spend more time learning about its government. This helped us understand how things work in Monaco in more detail, and we found some interesting insights.

Thorough Analysis

edit

Because Monaco is small, we were able to study it more completely in the time we had for the project.

In-depth Research
edit

The small amount of data in Monaco allowed us to dig deeper into the government and politics of the country. We looked at historical information, how laws are made, and how decisions are made by the government.

Valuable Findings
edit

Since we could study everything in-depth, we discovered some really useful information about Monaco's government. This information not only helps us understand how politics works but also gives ideas for people who make important decisions.

Official Website Verification

edit

We wanted to be sure that the data we used in our project was accurate and reliable.

Checking the Facts
edit

Monaco has an official website with trustworthy information. We used this website to check if the data we found in other places was correct. This helped us make sure we had reliable information.

Making Data Reliable
edit

By using the official website to confirm data, we made sure our project had trustworthy information. This made our conclusions and suggestions more reliable.

After considering these factors, we decided that Monaco would be a great choice for our project in the Wikidata Wikiproject Government.

Gathering information

edit

Government official website

edit

To gather information from the government's official website https://en.gouv.mc/, we explored the various sections related to the government structure and ministries. Here's a summary of the information we obtained:

Ministry of State

edit

We retrieved details about the Ministry of State, which is responsible for overseeing the overall functioning of the government in Monaco.

Other Ministries

edit
Ministry of Interior
edit

This ministry deals with matters related to internal affairs, law enforcement, and public safety within Monaco.

Ministry of Finance and Economy
edit

We obtained information about the ministry responsible for managing financial and economic matters, including budgeting, taxation, and economic development.

Ministry of Health and Social Affairs
edit

This ministry focuses on healthcare policies, social welfare programs, and initiatives to improve the well-being of citizens in Monaco.

Ministry of Public Works and Environment Urban Development
edit

We collected information about this ministry, which handles public infrastructure projects, environmental initiatives, and urban development planning.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation
edit

We obtained details about the ministry responsible for managing diplomatic relations, international cooperation, and representing Monaco's interests on the global stage.

Embassies

edit

With this query we collected the following Embassies of Monaco around the world, which are listed on Wikidata.

Monaco Wikipedia

edit

In addition to the government's official website, we also looked at Wikipedia for more information about Monaco's government.

We used a Wikipedia page called "Municipality of Monaco" to find out about the different areas within Monaco.

For Monaco's diplomatic missions, we checked a Wikipedia page called "List of diplomatic missions of Monaco." It showed us where Monaco has its embassies and consulates in other countries.

By using these sources, including the government's website and Wikipedia, we got a better understanding of Monaco's government, its municipalities, and diplomatic missions.

Problems and Questions to discuss

edit

During our project, we faced some difficulties that we had to deal with:

Adding Missing Pages

edit

One problem was that some pages were missing, like the one for the municipality of Monaco. So, we had to create those pages ourselves to have complete and correct information.

Confirming Embassy Data

edit

Another challenge was to ensure the accuracy of embassy data. We used Wikipedia to verify the information and then added any missing details to Wikidata, which is our main source for information.

Blocked IP-Address

edit

A big issue occurred when our IP address got blocked, which prevented us from accessing certain information. We had to figure out how to work around this restriction and find other ways to get the data we required by using vpn and connect to other country which which IP is not blocked by wikidata.

Retrospective & Conclusion

edit

In conclusion, we chose Monaco for the Wikidata Wikiproject Govdirectory because it's a small country, which made the project easier to handle. Due to Monaco's size, we could thoroughly study its government in a short time and learn more about how it works. Our research led us to valuable insights about Monaco's government agencies, ministries, embassies, and districts. To ensure our data was trustworthy, we checked official websites and Wikipedia for information. Although we faced challenges, like creating missing pages and dealing with blocked IP-addresses, we successfully added important government information to Wikidata. We hope our work motivates others to contribute and make government data more accessible worldwide, promoting transparency and understanding of different political systems globally.
