About

ArticlePlaceholder is a MediaWiki extension that allows to replace an otherwise empty page on a Wikipedia with some basic content in that wiki's language as available from Wikidata. The extension is in use across multiple Wikimedia wikis and beyond, and its basic characteristics are explained in this blog post. On a wiki that has it installed, it can be invoked by calling Special:AboutTopic/QID, where QID is the Wikidata identifier for the topic in question (e.g. gu:Special:AboutTopic/Q202864 for Zika virus (Q202864) on Gujarati Wikipedia (Q3180306)). If an entry for the topic already exists, that special page will redirect to it (e.g. bn:Special:AboutTopic/Q202864 for Zika virus (Q202864) on Bangla Wikipedia (Q427715)).
