P31-item for properties edit

Hello, when I create properties related to movies/films, I don't know if I should give them the statement instance of (P31)Wikidata property for items about films (Q22965162) or instance of (P31)Wikidata property related to movies and television shows (Q107395292). Maybe we should merge those two items. What do you think? Jonathan Groß (talk) Jonathan Groß (talk) 16:51, 12 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Oppose. Wikidata property for items about films (Q22965162) is specific for movies only. But Wikidata property related to movies and television shows (Q107395292) is a generic one and should be used only in case if more specific can't be used, and there is a huge tree of types under it. —putnik 18:23, 12 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

film festivals, Flickr user ID, and Vimeo ID edit

I just added Minimalen Short Film Festival (Q123589839) with statements for Flickr user ID (P3267) and Vimeo ID (P4015) because the film festival's official website links to pages on Flickr and Vimeo. However, both statements are showing constraint violations because film festival (Q220505) isn't allowed as the subject type for those properties. organization (Q43229) is allowed though. Should film festival be a subclass of organization? Or should those properties allow instances of film festival? Or something else? dseomn (talk) 02:35, 1 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Moviebuff ID Proposal edit

I have made a property proposal for the Moviebuff ID Moviebuff have mainly about Indian films and Indian film personalities data. This site has the native language titles of the films. Genres of television film edit

Do we need specific genres of TV films: film genre (Q110561452)? This mostly applies to the very standard feature film categories that also exist on WD as a film genre (Q201658):

How much are they different from regular film genres? Would it make sense to make a merge for all cases to avoid redundancy in genre (P136) and to avoid potential duplication of the genres tree? Solidest (talk) 11:28, 8 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

If there are no objections within a week, I will merge all these genres into regular film genres. Because I don't see any usefulness and practical sense in dividing the listed genres into feature films and television films. And because the only thing that justified the creation of this was separate categories on wikipedia. Solidest (talk) 22:28, 24 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Merge is done, except for animated television film, which has become a part of a separate hierarchy and needs a specific solution. Solidest (talk) 11:04, 6 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Wikidata:Property proposal/Trakt movie IDs edit

I've created a property proposal for the movie IDs on Trakt.tv: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Property_proposal/Creative_work#Trakt_Film-ID

We currently have a general, non-numerical Trakt.tv-ID in which the category (film, show, person) must be specified. This would be an opportunity to use the existing unique IDs on Trakt.tv. In particular, the question of whether it is possible to use bots here to get the IDs calls for participation. Paspal (talk) 10:38, 19 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Dubbing and characters edit

I'm working on a query to find all voice actors that dubbed people, and I found three cases :

In this first two cases we can do a join to find who is dubbing who thanks to the qualifiers "role" or "role name", all fine. Maybe we should encourage to create items for regional editions because this reduce the cloats and redundancy if there is many regional editions, if these datas are mass imported some day ? It also make sense because there can be several editions for different region for a single language, for example Quebec and France in french can both have their edition, and it's easier to discriminate that on a single item than on every statements.

In the third case the dubber is present in the character item, see Willis’ John McClane. There is one actor assigned as "dubbing actor", but it does not seem to be for a linguistic edition. There are also characters like Boba Fett (Q51790) that are both dubbed and played by different actors, and there are no qualifiers to make links to who dubs who in what work.

This third form is more difficult to work with, but it could make sense if a character (say, McClane) is always dubbed by the same dubber for the same actor.

Is it worth formalizing something for the third form ? Or do we just simply say people to always use edition items and don't bother for simplicity ?

(if you're curious, the template is fr:Modèle:Doublage d'acteur ou d'actrice (work in progress) and generates query such as this one. There have been heated discussions of frwiki n wether or not it was worth having a section in an actor article about it's voices actors, edit wars over removing them, so I want to propose this as an alternative). author  TomT0m / talk page 15:18, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'm in favour of own items for the dubbing. Sometimes there are not only different regional versions for the same language (Quebec and France) but there may be multiple versions for the same language and region (e.g. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Q134430) has (according to French Wikipedia) three dubbings in French (1938, 1962, 2001)).
In the case of (TV-) series it may be reasonable to add the dubbing actor to the character items, but I would not bother with it too much. - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 12:43, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
