Introduction edit

This is an organising page for the New Zealand Thesis Wikiproject, which started in 2022.

The Wikipedia project page describes the purpose behind the project, and contains names of the participants, slides from presentations and so on.

Upcoming event edit

Users DrThneed, Giantflightlessbirds and Zeborah will be holding a thesis project workshop in Christchurch on 22 April 2024. See the event page for more details.

Mix'n'match catalogue edit

This Mix'n'Match Catalogue is for matching author name strings to thesis authors on Wikidata. If you haven't used Mix'n'match before, this tutorial might be helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jE9ZvwYCNnQ

When you match an author in the catalogue, you will notice it doesn't edit the thesis Wikidata item or the author item (unlike most other Mix'n'match catalogues, which will add an identifier to the item you have matched). This is because we only have identifiers for theses in the the project, not people.

What this means in practice is that you do not need to manually add statements about where someone was educated, their academic thesis, or their degree after creating or matching author items, DrThneed will periodically download new matches from the Mix'n'match catalogue and use OpenRefine to add 'academic thesis', 'educated at', and 'degree' statements to the author item, and change the author name string to author on the thesis item. DrThneed will also attempt to find advisors for all authors in the batch and add those too.
