Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings/Attribution
We changed the way we handle attribution (Q230768) of paintings. The only correct way to do it now is creator (P170) -> <the creator item> qualified with nature of statement (P5102) -> attribution (Q230768). Common wrong ways of doing it:
Using P1773 (P1773) -> <the creator item> directly on an item. This has never been correct.Using creator (P170) -> anonymous (Q4233718) qualified with P1773 (P1773) -> <the creator item>. This was the old way of doing it.- Using creator (P170) -> <the creator item> qualified with sourcing circumstances (P1480) -> attribution (Q230768). We decided that nature of statement (P5102) is a better qualifier (list to work on).
In all cases it should be changed to creator (P170) -> <the creator item> qualified with nature of statement (P5102) -> attribution (Q230768)
Unfortunately a lot of paintings got updated with creator (P170) -> anonymous (Q4233718) without any qualifiers based on the "attributed to" in the description. For the easy cases:
- Remove the creator (P170) -> anonymous (Q4233718)
- Undo the (semi-)automated edits that added "painting by anonymous" in a lot of languages
- Add creator (P170) -> <the creator item> qualified with nature of statement (P5102) -> attribution (Q230768)
The last step is a lot of work so you can just leave that for later to be able to fix a lot of items quickly.
