Abstract

edit

Crotos is a search and display engine for visual artworks powered by Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons. The main goal of the project is to offer a multilingual interface to find or discover artworks reproductions and to give information and links about them. All data, regularly updated, come from Wikidata and all images from WikiCommons. Secondly the website is a tool to help for contribution, showing new items with image or Wikipedia article, with the possibility of looking for missing information. The project has several subprojects (Callisto, IIIF Cropper, Louvre rooms, ...).

The purpose of this presentation is to show the website, the process of production with difficulties and solutions, and the dynamic between contribution and reuse.

Collaborative notes of the session

Crotos is a search engine for artworks on Wikidata/Wikimedia Commons. You can filter by author, date, type, style, etc.

URLS are constructed using wikidata properties and items. Eg: http://zone47.com/crotos/?p179=618854 is "series: Apocalypse" (by Albrecht Dührer)

Some subprojects are attached, like Labs for statistics.

There is a curation made on Twitter through the @zone47crotos account.
