Abstract
Wikidata can transform existing metadata for a cultural heritage collection into a linked open data resource which can be visualised and manipulated to enhance the browsing and retrieval of material. This workshop will provide a step-by-step guide to the process of adding material to Wikidata, linking to other items, such as creators and locations, and producing data visualisations. The session will cover the use of editing tools, including QuickStatements and Mix’n’Match, and basic SPARQL queries.
What will attendees take away from this session?
  1. Ability to create a Wikidata item from a metadata record
  2. Awareness of the benefits of creating high quality Wikidata for GLAM collections
  3. Understanding of the potential to enrich catalogue records with Wikidata
  4. Basic skills for data visualisation using Wikidata Query Service and other tools.
