WikidataCon logo ID : SE-4 Envisioning Wikidata in the future: creating idea concepts in an interactive session
Speaker(s): Raja Gumienny, Jan Dittrich Timeblock: tb-friday Start: 16:00 Slides:
Room: Darwin Duration: 120min
Abstract:

It is Wikidata's vision to "give more people more access to more knowledge" and we all want it to include a diverse set of knowledge that represents the world's knowledge now and in the future. However, we are not there yet and besides our ongoing daily efforts, we also want to look at the topic from a more strategic and future oriented perspective. Therefore, we invite you to an interactive workshop where we create idea concepts in small groups and share and discuss them in the larger group afterwards.

The session is structured like this:

  • Introduction to workshop method, strategic question and background information
  • Building groups of 4 by 4 people
  • Brainstorming ideas, clustering and selection
  • Creating concept / prototype for favorite idea
  • Presenting concepts in the big group and discussion

Because of its interactive format, this workshop has a duration of two hours and participants are expected to be present during the entire workshop.

Due to room restrictions the session is limited to 16 people. Registration is open until October 25 10am by adding your name in the "attendees" section, followed by a short sentence describing why you would like to attend. If more than 16 people register, we will have to operate a selection.

People planning to attend:
  1. Frog23 (talk) 21:09, 4 September 2019 (UTC): I would like to attend and to provide input from the perspective of Wikibase users. How does the project need to change to further cater to structured data communities somewhat independent from Wikidata? How can an ecosystem emerge that combines the advantages of Wikidata with various independent Wikibase installations?[reply]
  2. Loz.ross: I am also interested in working on prototypes / concepts around the development of a wider ecosystem of interconnected Wikibase instances in relation to Wikidata, as well as how the query service interface could also be developed further in relation to federation.
  3. Husky (talk) 08:25, 25 October 2019 (UTC) : I'm especially interested in the UX side, and reuse of the data for third parties. Also, GLAM's.[reply]
  4. Akbar Ali-I would like to attend and to provide input from the perspective of Wikibase users.
