Organizing an online conference is an exciting challenge and requires a lot of efforts to prepare, monitor and document the event. Participants of the WikidataCon 2021 are very welcome to help! On this page, you will find a description various helpers roles. If you'd like to get involved and sign up for a shift, please contact infowikidatacon.org or Lea Lacroix (WMDE) as soon as possible. You will then receive more information about the available shifts.

Roles description edit
π Facilitator (Day 1) edit
Area of intervention: Livestream chat, Venueless channels
Mode: active
Tasks: The facilitators make sure that the atmosphere of the event stays nice and friendly. They help by answering questions from participants, either when they know the answer (e.g. questions about the schedule), or when they know someone else who can answer (ping another participant or organizer). They highlight questions about live session content from participants to the live moderator so they can be answered.
They make everyone feel welcome and comfortable, and they are also ready to apply the friendly space policy if necessary.
Skills: familiar with online communication & tools, good at dealing with tense situations
π Track facilitator (Day 2&3) edit
Area of intervention: Big Blue Button rooms
Mode: active
Tasks: The track facilitators are in charge of a track in a room during a certain amount of time. They make sure that the sessions start and end on time. They introduce the upcoming session and the speakers quickly. If needed, they indicate the beginning of the Q&A or discussion part, and help facilitate it.

Area of intervention: Note-taking pads, Venueless channels
Mode: active
Tasks: On Day 2 and 3, the scribes make sure that notes are taken for the sessions they are attending. They are taking notes themselves, but also reminding people in the chat that they can help.

π― Herald (Day 1) edit
Areas of intervention: Live chat and main channels on Venueless, social networks
Mode: active
Tasks: The Herald informs participants about incoming parts of the program, announces whatβs coming next. They make sure that people know whatβs happening and are not lost. They send various reminders (e.g. how to ask questions). They highlight the documentation pads and encourage people to take notes.
Skills: familiar with online communication & tools, patient and friendly
