Modelling Subdistricts and LGD local body code specialization edit

I have looked into modelling India's subdistricts to some extent. Here is what I think is an appropriate way to do it. I am looking for feedback and possible problems with this.

Indian Subdistrict classes

The idea is to create

 - individual "Tehsil of <state>" classes for each state which is a subclass of "Tehsil in India"
 - individual "community development block of <state>" classes for each state which is a subclass of "community development block in India"
 - individual "subdivision of <state> classes for each state which is a subclass of "subdivision of India"
 - a class called "Police Station of Odisha"

All the above mentioned "<unit> of <state>" classes, where appropriate, will also subclass "subdistrict of India" class.

"subdistrict of India" will basically represent a census sub-unit. I don't think the subdistrict classification is relevant or consistent in any other way( I would like to know if this is not the case ).

Individual instantiations of the all subclasses of "subdistrict of India" are supposed to have a 2011 Census Code and LGD Code( as subdistrict ).

This also brings us to the topic of LGD.

The use of a single LGD code for states/districts/subdistricts etc is problematic. Apart from the collision across various entity types( a state LGD code can be the same of another district's LGD code ), there is also a problem where any block of West Bengal has 2 LGD codes, one as subdistrict and another as a block. I think creation of separate LGD State or UT code, LGD District Code, LGD Subdistrict Code, LGD Block Code etc would be more appropriate. RamSeraph (talk) 14:05, 10 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

@RamSeraph, Separating the hierarchical elements with and a symbol like underscore would be a simple solution IMO. Arjunaraoc (talk) 12:47, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Instead of hierarchichal, we can just go for a prefix for the entity type like "VIL:<village_lgd_id>", "DIS:<district_lgd_id>".
But that still doesn't solve the second part of the issue of having multiple LGD codes for the same entity. This will show up for all community development blocks which are also subdistricts( for Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Jharkand, Bihar, West Bengal). Having just a separate "LGD Block Code" for community development blocks might fix this. Which is also why I started with that particular one here - https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Property_proposal/LGD_Block_Code RamSeraph (talk) 13:10, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
