button in Chinese (?) edit

Hey :)

User:Jaredzimmerman (WMF) and I were just looking at this page and the submit button for the form shows up in Chinese (?) for both of us. We both have our UI set to English. Anyone got an idea what is going on there? --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 02:22, 14 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Wikimedia genealogy project edit

I'm not sure if an actual RfC here at Wikidata is needed, at least not yet, but I was just wanted to invite Wikidata project members to contribute to this discussion re: WMF hosting a theoretical genealogy project. The discussion is not a specific proposal, but rather a gauge of interest, a place to express support or opposition, to voice concerns, to discuss how to move forward, and to see how Wikidata can contribute. Thanks for your consideration. -Another Believer (talk) 17:12, 10 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

What is the word "theoretical" doing in that sentence? The only reason to have a project that's separate from Wikidata would be if you want to allow people to upload data without sources or you want to have privacy controls about a subset of the data. Just like we have with Scholia specializd UI for browsing authors of scientific papers it would be easy to have a new UI for browsing Wikidata geneological data. https://tools.wmflabs.org/family/ancestors.php?q=Q7747&lang=en is an example of a browser that was developed over a weekend at a Hackathron. Ready to close edit

Wikidata:Requests for comment/Close-out of statements formerly using P794 is ready for closure. I've moved it to the "closed" section of the main noticeboard. If anybody knows the correct procedure to close it and take it off the watchlist notice, that'll be appreciated.

Outcome of discussion: "We created nature of statement (P5102) and pencilled down the boundaries between applies to part (P518), criterion used (P1013), sourcing circumstances (P1480), subject has role (P2868), object has role (P3831), and nature of statement (P5102)." Deryck Chan (talk) 11:38, 1 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Deryck Chan: It was removed by Pasleim from Template:Watchlist summary/RFC in this edit. The page needs to be marked for translation; I have requested that at Wikidata:Translators' noticeboard. I don't think there's anything else to the procedure. Jc86035 (talk) 14:46, 1 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Diff between Wikidata List (Listeria) and Wikidata Query edit

The SERVICE wikibase:label works fine on WDQ, but doesn't seem to work in Listeria, or am I missing something? List of feminists, which shows a few Qcodes, although, some labels are in the one of the specified languages on Wikidata. Any suggestions please? My aim here is to get the labels in the Listeria list, not the Q-item codes. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 13:40, 6 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Llywelyn2000: Listeria can display anything bound in the SPARQL SELECT, so instead of something like P19:Man g, which will dynamically look that value up on the ?item of each row, you could instead add an OPTIONAL { ?item wdt:P19 ?mang } to the query, and add the ?mangLabel to the SELECT, and then add a column for it as ?mangLabel:Man g. (Note, though, Listeria would have slightly different behaviour here if someone were to have multiple P19s; if you need to be able to display more than one value via home-rolled SPARQL, that starts getting quite complicated quite quickly, though can be done with GROUP_CONCAT). --Oravrattas (talk) 19:48, 6 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Can someone close this RFC please? edit

Hi all

Can someone close this RFC please Wikidata:Requests for comment/Wikidata to use data schemas to standardise data structure on a subject? 30 people took part and came to consensus (see the talk page), it has been open for 130 days. Closing the RFC will allow us to implement what we suggested.

Thanks

Layout using the mobile web interface edit

The layout of this page is really bad on a mobile device. We need horizontal scrolling to read the first box. PAC2 (talk) 06:10, 1 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Are there any guidelines for leading a request for comments to take a decision? edit

I've launched a request for comments and after a few month, there is no clear consensus. What should I do? Lauch a voting process? Is there any recommendation on how to close a request for comments? PAC2 (talk) 06:08, 2 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Layout of the header in the mobile interface edit

The layout of the header (Wikidata:Requests for comment/Header) is not responsive. Using a mobile device you'll need to scroll horizontally to read the text, which is a very bad user experience. PAC2 (talk) 04:26, 14 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

The problem comes from the default width of the input box. The documentation is here : https://m.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:InputBox

I propose a change here https://m.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/1660037727?diffmode=source PAC2 (talk) 04:39, 14 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

I've launched Wikidata:Requests for comment/How to avoid to use male form as a generic form in property labels in French? in July. After more than 30 days I've closed the RfC but I didn't see that the RfC should be closed by an "uninvolved editor" (Source Wikidata:Requests for comment/Header). Can any uninvolved editor confirm the conclusion of the RfC? PAC2 (talk) 20:24, 19 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Revision "→‎Open requests: User:Lectrician1, note the semantics " by Koavf edit

@User:Koavf Revision you know this doesn't matter, right? Also, I'm using the Visual Editor and it doesn't add that.  – The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lectrician1 (talk • contribs).

Please tell me more about how accessibility and semantics don't matter. Silly me, as I thought that helping the blind and providing structured data that is machine-readable on a site that is about machine-readable data mattered. Also, I don't know of any editor that automatically adds it: I added it manually to all of these rows. It would be nice if other editors assisted me in making the site more accessible. @Lectrician1: —Justin (koavf)TCM 01:04, 5 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I didn't know it was for accessibility. Lectrician1 (talk) 01:43, 5 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
