The administrators of this project have consciously decided not to use the sex or gender property (P21) for the entities we create. The property does not capture the complexity of the human experience and is not germane to our project. We are not comfortable assigning a sex or gender value, nor do we feel obliged to populate a property simply because it exists. We acknowledge that other Wikidata and Wikipedia projects use sex and gender as a crucial data point and that property (P21) might be added to Changemaker entities by other agents. We reached consensus after much discussion, although some of us hold ambivalent opinions about its implementation.
