Sourcing citizenship with GND edit

Hi Arjun, I saw your restauration on Marta García Morcillo (Q107573436). While I usually agree that sourced statement should not be removed, in this case it's more complicated. GND field for "Land" doesn't imply any notion of citizenship as intended by country of citizenship (P27). From it's use instruction (p. 5), it is used to indicate countries where the person lived or worked. These can obviously overlap with citizenship, but we can't base any statement on it. There are ca 9k items with this source (Query). The source is sacred to me. We use prefered/deprecated values if something is wrong with it. "Qualifiers therefore contribute to Wikidata's flexibility as a platform and its ability to support a plurality of perspectives, including data which may provide contradicting information. In case of disputes, community consensus ultimately determines the value of a property, however other points of views can be added as additional values using qualifiers as well as sources. Please note that just as Wikipedia does not publish original research or content representing the beliefs of its editors, Wikidata does not allow contributions that reflect personal stances or opinions, nor does it tolerate edit warring over statement values." There are indeed a certain number of P27 sourced with GND - I have also contributed to some before knowing that GND can't be used for that. You don't have to lecture me on ranks or verifiabilty, for I know how do they works and I share you vision on them. @Emu:, as I have learned from one of your comment on the use of GND for P27, what would you suggest? Can we just delete the statement that are solely sourced with GND or would it be preferable to deprecate them ? --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 17:25, 20 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
I suggest deletion of such statements. Deprecation would make sense if a source claims something that has never been true. But that’s not the case here, GND doesn’t claim country of citizenship (P27) information at all (or only in very rare cases in the comments field). --Emu (talk) 20:23, 20 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
