Documentation subpages edit

Hello! Why did you connect documentation subpages? There were discussions where the consensus was not to store such links in WD. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 15:42, 19 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

I didn't know this. I'm sorry. --Holder (talk) 07:25, 21 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Merging items edit

Hallo Holder,

If you were not already using it, you may want to check out the merge.js gadget for merging items. It has an option "Request deletion for extra items on RfD" to automatically nominate the page you are merging from for deletion. This way of nominating also makes it easier for the admins to process such requests. For support and other options you can check the help page about merging.

deleting links to als edit

Q9083667 and Q1124 are working on als. Why did you remove them? DGtal (talk) 19:59, 14 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

That was a mistake. --Holder (talk) 05:52, 15 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Spam blitz on many small WPs edit

Greetings, Holder! As a recent frequent contributor to the ZU WP, just now I encountered an incident of massive page creation on a commercial topic, possibly similar to one you've handled before. On 15-16 September 2017, the IP User:162.196.142.177 created a page for Q3419341 in ca. 54 different language WPs. The content is a single line, apparently via machine translation. As I write this comment, about a dozen of these pages have already been individually deleted, presumably as not notable. If this IP user is spamming with commercial content, similar to the activity of the now-globally blocked User:MasonDecker217 (Contributions), can anything be done to prevent its continuation and reoccurence? I discovered your previous involvement on zu:Checkers (ithilomu) where there's mention of "mass deletion." Note that the ZU WP has no admin, and we're monitored by your colleague User:DARIO SEVERI; I'm approaching you here as what I've described above must be familiar to you. -- Cheers, Deborahjay (talk) 08:35, 16 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi I've now deleted most of these articles. Perhaps the best thing to prevent such things is to elect an own admin on zuwiki. Best regards. --Holder (talk) 06:24, 17 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
The ZU WP has very few active users, emerging at the rate of about 1 per month. I intend soon to approach the Wikimedia South Africa team to apprise them of the renewed current activity, but am waiting till the new users - particularly native speakers of isiZulu - get on board a bit more. -- Deborahjay (talk) 07:32, 18 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

More fast-food chain spam on small WPs edit

Hello again, Holder. Just now I discovered another round of same-topic, single-line new articles created in a blitz on 13 small WPs (including ZU where I contribute daily). This time it's IP user 192.162.242.10 (Contributions). If this sort of activity continues (as there were several instances in ZU WP about a month ago I'd thought were one-offs), is there another way you'd prefer I'd report it? -- Thanks, Deborahjay (talk) 07:27, 18 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I've deleted these spam on Wikipedias I can act as global sysop. It's perfect if you report it here. Best regards. --Holder (talk) 07:33, 18 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Updated to add: A recent spurt all on one item, documented on Talk:Q1585088. Your attention is appreciated!. -- Deborahjay (talk) 19:36, 2 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of sitelinks edit

Please avoid deleting sitelinks, even to closed projects. I'm not aware of anything in support of such an approach. As long as link is valid, it's generally kept. If this is desired, maybe it should be done software side.

Hi Jura. Has there once been a discussion on the topic how to deal with closed projects? Thanks and best regards. --Holder (talk) 09:35, 20 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Search found me this: Wikidata:Project_chat/Archive/2014/03#Sitelinks_to_closed_wikis.

Translation request edit

Hello.

Can you translate and upload de:Zentralbank der Republik Aserbaidschan, de:Liste der höchsten Berge in Aserbaidschan, de:Aserbaidschanische Nationalbibliothek, de:Nationalversammlung der Republik Aserbaidschan, de:Verfassung der Republik Aserbaidschan, de:Staatliche Universität Baku, de:Nationale Akademie der Wissenschaften Aserbaidschans and en:Baku Zoo in Alemannic Wikipedia?

They should not be long.
