Merging items

Hallo KaiKemmann,

For merging items, you may want to use the merge.js gadget from help page about merging. It has an option "Request deletion for extra items on RfD" to automatically place a request to delete the emptied page. This way of nominating makes it a lot easier for the admins to process the requests.

Maybe, instead of pointing to the source, you could direct editors without any knowledge about the technology behind Wikipedia (like me) straight to the box in their preferences which they need to tick.

After having done this, I still don't know where to find (how to use) this gadget, though.

I know it's always hard to find the time but it might be worthwile to add an explanation to the individual items that can be switched on in the preferences.

Otherwise I simply don't have a clue what most of these do.

I linked quite a few pages with explanation. If they don't suffice, I wouldn't know how to better explain a gadget, that I didn't create. If you have specific questions, I may be able to answer those, but a general "please explain me what I must do so I get it exactly as I want it" would be hard to respond to with all the options and all the possible things you may or may not want.

„Zerspanerei“

Hallo Kai,
der von dir eingefügte Begriff „Zerspanerei“ ist mir überhaupt noch nie zu Ohren gekommen. Selbst Google kennt dazu nur 198 Treffer, wovon allerdings etliche darunter die Tätigkeit des Zerspanens und nicht die Örtlichkeit bezeichnen, an der zerspant wird.

Wo hast du den Begriff denn her? Duden? Fachliteratur? Ich gehe einmal davon aus, dass du dich auf eine Quelle beziehst, denn sonst wäre das Begriffsfindung, die ja bekanntlich in Wikimedia-Projekten nicht zulässig ist.

P.S.: Im Übrigen sollen auch keine mehrfachen Weiterleitungen erstellt werden, wie z.B.: de:Zapfenlochstemmer auf de:Zapfenloch zeigt, was wiederum auf de:Zapfenverbindung weiterleitet. Solche Verschachtelungen sind unerwünscht (werden meines Wissens sogar durch automatische Bot-Bearbeitungen behoben.) Ich bitte dich dringend, dich über die gängigen Regeln / Gepflogenheiten zur Verlinkungspraxis zu informieren, bevor du weitere Bearbeitungen dieser Art unternimmst. Lieber Zaccarias,

"Zerspanerei" ist die einzige mir bekannte Übersetzung von “machine shop" entsprechend der derzeitigen Verwendung des Begriffs im gleichlautenden Artikel der englischen Wikipedia. Eine andere, mögliche Bedeutung des Begriff wäre "Maschinenhalle", "Maschinenabteilung" oder etwas in der Art. Doch diese Begriffe sind dann ja wiederum so unspezifisch, dass in absehbarer Zeit wohl in keiner Wikipedia-Sprachversion ein Artikel dazu angelegt werden wird.

Ich glaube, die Übersetzung "Zerspanerei" wird auch unter den Kommentaren zum Begriff "machine shop" im Online-Wörterbuch "Leo" genannt.

Wenn Dir eine bessere Verknüpfung einfällt, dann ändere das doch einfach entsprechend.

Zum PS: Wie Du bereits bemerktest, werden mehrfache Weiterleitungen in der deutschen Wikipedia durch Bots automatisch korrigiert. Indem ich die doppelte Weiterleitung aber nun einmal eingesetzt habe, ist sie zumindest in der Bearbeitungs-Geschichte dokumentiert und kann somit relativ einfach wiederhergestellt werden, sobald aus der (Zwischen-)Weiterleitungsseite ein eigener Artikel wird. Ich gehe vorläufig davon aus, dass durch dieses Vorgehen kein Schaden entstanden ist.

Hydraulic potential

Why this merge: Special:Diff/1290730701? Hydraulic head and hydraulic potential are definitely different, first is measured in metres, unit for the second is kg m⁻¹ s⁻¹. First also relates hydraulic systems such as reservoirs/dams on rivers, second is specific to soil water. Different concepts warrant different items on Wikidata. If this merge is only about interwiki links on Wikipedia and German Wikipedia article, despite it's title, is rather about hydraulic head, then an option is to move only the sitelink without merge. Though, to me the subject of German Wikipedia article rather seems different, it deals with soil water etc. 2001:7D0:81F7:B580:74D5:F3A7:8C81:9B20 19:00, 14 October 2020 (UTC)
