Typo edit

There is a typo "depreciating" instead of "deprecating". --Nemo 17:57, 5 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Nemo_bis: -- I think (not 100% sure but possibly) that the i is optional, and that it can be used both ways possibly? See Depreciating :-) This was in the edit summary so I would need to somehow figure out a way to recreate this image.... -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 18:02, 5 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Bots edit

What bots are there that add identifiers based on other identifiers? I sometimes see bots adding identifiers. For instance, VIAF is linked to other identifiers and bots could be using this link if just the VIAF is added. -- Fnielsen

That's a good question. I don't know the answer to this. I think maybe this might be a question for the Wikipedia Authority Control template page? Those folks might know better. Embarrassingly enough I do all of my Authority Control work manually. :-) -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 13:44, 16 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
My bot KasparBot moves identifiers from several Wikipedia projects every night to Wikidata. See Wikidata:WikiProject Authority control/Status. -- T.seppelt (talk) 14:02, 16 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello @BrillLyle:

Thank you very much for your work! This tutorial is really well done and could be useful for a lot of people. As it is not exactly a tour, technically-speaking, and to give it more visibility, I suggest that you move the page to Help:Authority control then add the link to the "more experienced" column of the help portal.

If you need any advice, don't hesitate to ask   Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 08:55, 15 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I understand this Help Guide to Authority Control is not a Tour strictly speaking there is an abject lack of documentation for Wikipedia users to understand how to update and connect Authority Control. Until there is something more adequate and elegant, it seems like this should be in a semi-findable area. Because quite frankly this does not fit in the "more experienced" area -- it's a fundamental need of Wikipedia editors that has been depreciated from Wikipedia to Wikidata. It's not advanced, it's actually quite typical. -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 13:41, 16 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
You were 100% right. After a couple of bumbled attempts, I moved it. Will now try to add it to that column. Thank you so much for the kind suggestion. Wish me luck! :-) -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 13:52, 16 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Return to "Authority control" page.
