It is with much enthusiasm, celebration, and gratitude that we name this new genus of flowering plants in honor of Dr. Lucinda A. McDade, current Director of Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Garden, American Society of Plant Taxonomist’s Asa Gray Award recipient for 2019, and lifelong student of Acanthaceae. For over 35 yr, Lucinda has worked tirelessly to build new knowledge of Acanthaceae through numerous scholarly contributions including publications, talks, educational events, workshops, and outreach activities. By spearheading many of the phylogenetic, morphological, molecular, and pollination ecological studies throughout the family over this time period, she has vastly reworked the landscape of our understanding of evolution and ecology within the family. Her love of desert ecosystems and, specifically, her having conducted research in the Namib Desert in prior years, makes this attribute particularly fitting. As has been the case for ourselves, Lucinda has positively impacted the lives of thousands of students, professionals, and lay-persons. We are honored to describe this new lineage in recognition of her achievements. (English)
