Correct identification of this object

edit

The correct identification of some NGC objects is difficult due to errors and misunderstandings of the original observer and of the astronomers that, during time, made and re-analysed the data.

Use the information of different sources, NGC 599 has different identifications. Following the prescription of NGC/IC project NGC 599 and NGC 601 are different objects!

Source Identifications Link Notes
NGC/IC project in VizieR (Q1662358) PGC 5778 [1] right identification
NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database (Q488563) PGC 5778 [2] right identification
Lyon-Meudon Extragalactic Database (Q6709611) PGC 5778, NGC 601 [3] right identification, but wrong assignment to NGC 601!
SIMBAD (Q654724) PGC 5778, NGC 601 [4] right identification, but wrong assignment to NGC 601!

It would be prudent do not use SIMBAD (Q654724) and Lyon-Meudon Extragalactic Database (Q6709611) databases to recover catalogue names of this object!
