Correct identification of this object
editThe correct identification of some NGC objects is difficult due to errors and misunderstandings of the original observer and of the astronomers that, during time, made and re-analysed the data.
Use the information of different sources, NGC 2379 has different identifications. Following the prescription of NGC/IC project NGC 2379 (a galaxy) is not the same object of NGC 2378 (a double star)! See also this discussion.
Source | Other NGC | Link | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
NGC/IC project in VizieR (Q1662358) | --- | [1] | right identification |
NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database (Q488563) | --- | [2] | right identification |
Lyon-Meudon Extragalactic Database (Q6709611) | NGC 2378 | [3] | wrong identification! |
SIMBAD (Q654724) | NGC 2378 | [4] | wrong identification! |
- It would be prudent do not use SIMBAD (Q654724) and Lyon-Meudon Extragalactic Database (Q6709611) datatabases to recover catalog names of this object!
