Correct identification of this object

edit

The correct identification of some NGC objects is difficult due to errors and misunderstandings of the original observer and of the astronomers that, during time, made and re-analysed the data.

Use the information of different sources, NGC 2518 has different identifications. Following the prescription of NGC/IC project the object named NGC 2518 is the galaxy PGC 22800, but not also the name NGC 2519!

Source UGC PGC Other NGC Link Notes
NGC/IC project in VizieR (Q1662358) UGC 4221 PGC 22800 --- [1] right identification
NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database (Q488563) UGC 4221 PGC 22800 --- [2] right identification
Lyon-Meudon Extragalactic Database (Q6709611) UGC 4221 PGC 22800 NGC 2519 [3] right identification, but wrong assignment to NGC 2519!
SIMBAD (Q654724) UGC 4221 PGC 22800 NGC 2519 [4] right identification, but wrong assignment to NGC 2519!

It would be prudent do not use SIMBAD (Q654724) and Lyon-Meudon Extragalactic Database (Q6709611) databases to recover catalogue names of this object!
