Correct identification of this object

edit

The correct identification of some NGC objects is difficult due to errors and misunderstandings of the original observer and of the astronomers that, during time, made and re-analysed the data.

Use the information of different sources, NGC 2597 has different identifications. Following the prescription of NGC/IC project NGC 2597 can be identified as a double star and not as the galaxy NGC 2598.

Source Identification Link Notes
NGC/IC project in VizieR (Q1662358) double star [1] right identification
NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database (Q488563) double star [2] right identification
Lyon-Meudon Extragalactic Database (Q6709611) galaxy NGC 2598 [3] wrong identification!
SIMBAD (Q654724) galaxy NGC 2598 [4] wrong identification!

Please do not use SIMBAD (Q654724) and Lyon-Meudon Extragalactic Database (Q6709611) databases to recover the data of this object!
