P131
edit@Rigadoun: Why did you remove Hälsingland from located in the administrative territorial entity (P131)? -- Innocent bystander (talk) 08:09, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Innocent bystander: I thought it was a higher-level entity than Ovanåker Municipality (Q505085), which would make it redundant. But now I see it's not on that page, and I'm actually not sure how this property applies to historical provinces (did that apply only before the municipality was founded?). Should it be included with time stamps like end time (P582)? Anyway, if there's a good reason to, please put it back. Rigadoun (talk) 04:57, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Rigadoun: The provinces are still alive, even if their administrative function is very limited today. (They have no Governor today, but they are for example used by the National Heritage Board to record historical monuments.) The problem with P131 and Sweden is that we do not have the hierarchy between different administrative divisions you find in states like United States and Germany. And it is often those countries that has set the model for how our properties works. The municipalities are always located in one and only one county. That has, as far as I know, always been true since the municipalities were introduced in the 19th century. (The lower level municipalities who existed until 1970, could be located in more than one higher level municipality, and theoretically therefor in more than one county. But I do not know if we ever had any such example.) A municipality can be located in more than one province, a district can be located in more than one municipality, and the same thing can be said both about parishes and civil parishes. In some cases a parish have been larger than the municipality, and Gotland municipality is maybe today larger than the province of Gotland.
- It is possible that Ovanåker today is located in only one province, but I do not know if that always has been in that way. Until we have a good solution to this, I add all levels except for the counties in P131. This since the counties are the only entity who always are redundant to the municipalities. -- Innocent bystander (talk) 08:39, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Innocent bystander: Thanks for the explanation and bringing this issue to my attention. I've reverted my change and will be more careful about this in the future (I see there are a few other countries, like UK and France, where this may also sometimes be the case, as well).
