OCLC Work ID for Q56808408

edit

The entity, Chen Gong arrests and releases Cao Cao (Q56808408) describes a portion of a historical figure in a historical fictional novel , 三國演義 (the three kingdoms saga from the ancient China period). The Work id (4958004339) from OCLC Classify page that was in the WD description depicts the portion of the novel representing this item. The LC shelf-mark (call number) "PL" denotes the item is a fiction class then followed by either author or work. In this case the ".S" for work "San guo..." LC Classification.

Did your removal of OCLC Work ID from Chen Gong arrests and releases Cao Cao (Q56808408) mean to address that the Work ID statement should refer to the whole work, not a portion of the work? Thank you.

@ShiehJ: Thank you for your message. I am not sure that the OCLC work ID (P5331) statement should refer to the whole work, not a portion of the work. But this question is irrelevant here because this item (Q56808408) refers to a fictional event (Q14136353), not a creative work (Q17537576) or a portion of it. A fictional event is not a work, but is depicted by a work. You firstly added OCLC work ID (P5331) 3944634188 (5 Beijing opera VCD/DVDs), and then replaced it with 4958004339 (4 lianhuanhua (Q3088767)). As I explained in my edit summary when I removed it, both of them depict this fictional event (zhuo fang Cao). If one of them should be added here, which one should? Please have in mind that both the lianhuanhua and the VCD/DVDs are derivative works, not the portion of the original novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Chinese Wikipedia article zh:捉放曹 mentions Beijing opera and xiangsheng, and does not even mention the lianhuanhua. How can we say that OCLC work ID (P5331) 4958004339 should be added here? I don't know whether OCLC (Q190593) has any ID for a portion of a work. At least both 3944634188 and 4958004339 refer to a whole work (stand-alone VCD/DVD or stand-alone lianhuanhua). Probably OCLC really does not have any ID for a portion of a work. But even if OCLC has an ID for the "zhuo fang Cao" (捉放曹) portion of the original novel (part of a chapter), I still don't think that it should be added to this item. The reason is that, as I put it above, this item (Q56808408) refers to a fictional event, and a fictional event is not a creative work or a portion of it. --Neo-Jay (talk) 18:38, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
