Why did you remove the image? edit

Why did you remove this image? As far as I can see it's pretty much the only CCBY image related to Ubik so why did you remove it? Prototyperspective (talk) 15:30, 19 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi. For being misleading. Despite the filename it's not an advertisement (either for the book in the real world, or for the product within the book), it's an AI-generated image of what an AI thinks Ubik might look like. I was cleaning up some AI issues on Commons and was surprised to see this image in use over here. Belbury (talk) 15:38, 19 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
I don't think you have read Ubik. Advertisements for Ubik are a major plot within it. (And also no, it's not what that image is, I don't think you know much about how AI image tools work either nor have you looked at the prompts and parameters used.) I have read Ubik and I know how AI image tools work. Belbury (talk) 15:49, 19 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Ok great, what is your argument for why I should not readd the image if you object to that? Prototyperspective (talk) 15:54, 19 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
That it superficially looks like an official advertisement for the book, or an illustration from the book, but is 2023 fan art made with an AI tool. Doesn't seem a useful piece of Wikidata to me. Belbury (talk) 16:06, 19 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
It is an advertisement for Ubik which as explained is a major plot within the book. It is not an advertisement for Ubik the book. Maybe the filename led to some confusion. I'll add a caption then to clarify that it's not official but afaik it wasn't the displayed image anyway, instead of a page with the text Ubik on it is currently the used image. That's what I'm saying, the filename is misleading. If Wikidata has the option for a clear "fan art of" field, and no policy against AI content, I guess that works. Belbury (talk) 16:21, 19 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
