Ship names

edit

Re [1], that's what the new setup is supposed to solve. Now we have the Commons IMO category in the main topic item, here Natita (Q52289542) (or in the main category item linked by topic's main category (P910)/category's main topic (P301)), and then we have category items that are linked to via category for ship name (P7782) - of which there can be multiple ones - that link back via category combines topics (P971). A future iteration of the infobox on commons will follow that back through to the main item to fetch more info about the ship to display in the name categories on Commons. Does that make sense? @Mike Peel: OK. I guess the ship name could have have a start/end date qualifier in a single Wikidata item (along with other ship attributes like call sign, MMSI, flag, etc. which don't necessarily change at the same times as the name) but if you have a plan for how this would all work, it'll probably be better (if a bit confusing to me at first). That info would pretty much all go into Natita (Q52289542), with fairly minimal info in the name items, I think. Also, @Ein Dahmer: might find this explanation useful for the edits at Lady Haya (Q81656777). Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 18:49, 11 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
