Pilznamenwechsel
editHello Hofoen, I hope it is OK if I write to you in English. Alternatively I can use my bad German, which should be comprehensible. Anyway, if you wish to reply in German I will understand you fine.
It is very interesting that in Wikidata you changed Q752497 (the main item with the interwiki links for this species of mushroom) to have P225 "taxon name" = "Imleria badia" instead of "Boletus badius" and to have P171 "parent taxon" = Q19286081 "Imleria" instead of Q19744 "Boletus". Also you made the former Q28654165 "Imleria badia" item into the "Boletus badius" item which is now just a synonym. I once tried to do something similar but my changes were reverted.
Who decided that this change was appropriate - that is, that the current name has changed to "Imleria badia"? Did you decide yourself, or did someone ask you to make the change, or is there a procedure for deciding when to make such a change? Or do you follow the taxonomy of Wikimedia Commons?
Because of DNA analysis new fungal genus names are coming faster than ever, which is a terrible curse for amateur mycologists, and for databases which try to classify this branch of the tree of life. I am not sure we have a good data model to manage this process in Wikidata, but anyway I am very keen to understand what the procedure should be.
Thanks for your attention, Strobilomyces (talk) 20:27, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
Share your experience and feedback as a Wikimedian in this global survey
editHello! The Wikimedia Foundation is asking for your feedback in a survey. We want to know how well we are supporting your work on and off wiki, and how we can change or improve things in the future. The opinions you share will directly affect the current and future work of the Wikimedia Foundation. You have been randomly selected to take this survey as we would like to hear from your Wikimedia community. The survey is available in various languages and will take between 20 and 40 minutes.
You can find more information about this survey on the project page and see how your feedback helps the Wikimedia Foundation support editors like you. This survey is hosted by a third-party service and governed by this privacy statement (in English). Please visit our frequently asked questions page to find more information about this survey. If you need additional help, or if you wish to opt-out of future communications about this survey, send an email through the EmailUser feature to WMF Surveys to remove you from the list.
Thank you!
