CURRENT WORK/QUESTIONS:

ARTIE WILSON: 31.8338° N, 87.7619° W: Arthur Lee (Artie) Wilson (1920-2010), according to The Oregon Encyclopedia, was born in Springfield, Alabama- near Birmingham, Alabama. Wikipedia automatically imported, "Springville, Alabama" as his place of birth. A Wikipedia page for Springfield, Alabama does not exist.

Sources: https://www.oregonencyclopedia.org/articles/wilson_arthur_lee_artie_1920_2010_/#.X9BwaNhKi70

Make sure to follow back with this data item/do more research about the various locations associated with his birthplace. GPS coordinates cannot be used with data items with the humans tag.

Springville, Alabama GPS coordinates: 33.7751° N, 86.4717° W Springfield, AL is 2 1/2 hours away from Birmingham, though most records state that Artie was born near Birmingham (source google maps)

Springville, AL is 30 minutes away from Birmingham (google maps)

MAJOR QUESTIONS: Where does the inconsistency in the record emerge from? Is The Oregon Encyclopedia incorrect? The source used in the OE is: Moff, Larry and Jonathan Kronstadt. Crossing the Line: Black Major Leaguers 1947-1959. Iowa City: University of Iowa Press, 1996. The physical book is available at OSU: https://search.library.oregonstate.edu/primo-explore/fulldisplay?docid=CP71109704780001451&context=L&vid=OSU&lang=en_US&search_scope=everything&adaptor=Local%20Search%20Engine&tab=default_tab&query=any,contains,Crossing%20the%20Line:%20Black%20Major%20Leaguers%201947-1959&offset=0

I have just ordered this book and am awaiting its arrival Oregon Live lists Springfield, AL as his birthplace in his obituary: https://obits.oregonlive.com/obituaries/oregon/obituary.aspx?n=arthur-lee-wilson-artie&pid=146600540

Society for American Baseball Research: https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/artie-wilson/ "Born near Birmingham, Alabama"

Baseball Alamanac: https://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/player.php?p=wilsoar02 "born in Jefferson County, AL"

Jefferson County, AL does contain Birmingham, and Springville, AL is just outside of the boundaries of the county (google maps)
