Railway sections edit

Hi Lnkvt,

Wikidata items like Botlek (Q122963333) without any external links are difficult to use. Is this 470_65V or 470_251V or all of them?

Kind regards, --U. M. Owen (talk) 13:17, 27 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi U. M. Owen,
The Dutch infrastructure maintainer Prorail uses its 'geocode' labeling to refer to railway areas. So in this case it would be all track labeled 470. For use in Openstreetmap it would be more appropriate to assign this to a polygon than to lines.
Lower codes do refer to railway line sections (all parallel tracks), while higher numbers are used for stations, yards, industrial areas etc. which cannot easily be captured in a one-dimensional representation. Lnkvt (talk) 14:45, 27 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
The Dutch railroad archives are held by the Utrecht City archive, and they have classified images by geocode, so for Botlek these would be findable by https://hetutrechtsarchief.nl/onderzoek/resultaten/archieven?mivast=39&mizig=287&miadt=39&miview=gal&milang=nl&mizk_alle=trefwoord:470%20Botlek
Someone imported the PD images into Commons, and created categories for each geocode value.

I've added the Commons Link. May you please do this for your other items?
If you are active at OpenStreetMap you could create relations there.--U. M. Owen (talk) 16:36, 27 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I will go through the items I added the past weeks and add the commons link. Lnkvt (talk) 19:26, 27 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
