@Bouzinac: The inception (P571) statements which were added in this batch were wholly incorrect and so I am removing all of them. Aside from the overprecision and transposition of month/day, these dates (referred to as "activation date" in some sources) do not represent when the airports/heliports/aerodromes began to exist (see for instance Los Angeles International Airport (Q8731), which existed well before the activation date of April 1940). The exact meaning of them is not completely clear to me; my guess is that they indicate when the facility was registered with the Federal Aviation Administration or its predecessor, the Civil Aeronautics Authority. I cannot find an appropriate property where such a date would go. I thought about adding them as a start time (P580) qualifier on the FAA airport code (P240) statement, though that would assume that the current code is the same as the one that was first assigned. A start time qualifier on a new significant event (P793) statement might work, though I don't know what exactly the main value would be.

I would love to hear any suggestions you might have about how this data can be entered correctly into WD. Thanks.

Hi, airport dataset from FAA seems no longer available. Their data appear to me fundamental because FAA "owns" US airports and heliports and so FAA is the reference per se, not other airport websites about US airports. If I were you, I would not remove data but put them deprecated in case of genuine error.
There is however a dislike when you suggest typing only the year and not the DDMM part. If a source says X was founded dd/mm/yyyy then that data with date precision should be there : storing only the year would be exasperating to my eyes (not applying to errors, of course). There has however been seldom errors when Openrefine misreaded data and inverted MMDD into DDMM (or vice versa), thus shall be corrected of course. Bouzinac💬✒️💛 13:54, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
