- Motivation
It would be useful to be able to tell whether there is a specific category for maps and plans of an item here, as distinct from the general category for the item given by Commons category (P373).
For example, the British Library Mechanical Curator georeferencing project has now georeferenced about 20,000 old maps from 19th century books (with 30,000 still to go), that it is proposed to upload to Commons. With the georeferencing it is often possible to identify a Wikidata item for what the map depicts. However, categorisation on Commons (which it would be good to be able to do as part of the upload) is still not straightforward, because it is typically not clear whether there is a separate sub-category for maps of the item or not.
This property would give a place to store such information.
Note: if there is no specific category for maps of the item (just a general Commons category), then this property should not be applied.

- @Pigsonthewing, Jheald: Done Given that the proposal has support and there seems to be no conflicts with the general WikiCommons integration I created the property. ChristianKl (talk) 13:13, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
