- Motivation
Entity labels are designed to be multilingual (which is great), but this only applies to written/spoken languages. With a dedicated property, this proposal tries to expand the "label" scope to sign languages, which are living languages. The different sign languages have alpha-3 iso codes (partial list). The property will be multivalued, with a mandatory qualifier language of work or name (P407) and a value among the previous list. The target file could be any video or still picture image: videos are preferred, but in simple cases a still picture is sufficient.
Please note this is partially related to, and consistent with the pronunciation property : pronunciation audio (P443) with mandatory qualifier language of work or name (P407)
- Discussion
- language of work or name (P407) has the item datatype, not string datatype, "fsl" is not a valid value. Instead, the value would be French Sign Language (Q33302). --Yair rand (talk) 11:12, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- yes, many thanks, I fixed my error in the proposal box. GAllegre (talk) 13:29, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- I don't think "(video)" should be part of the label here, it makes it sound like it's supposed to be restricted to videos. I would also leave out the word "entity" (it's not included for native label (P1705) and female form of label (P2521)). For the description I would probably use "video, photo or realistic diagram of the item's label in a sign language (use P407 to specify which sign language)" - we don't usually start descriptions with "a", we don't really need say that multiple statements are allowed (multiple statements are always possible, even for properties where we only expect one value) and the qualifier suggestions still don't work properly when adding a new statement. - Nikki (talk) 13:46, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
