Motivation

The light of a lighthouse can be appropriately described on Wikidata, but unless I am missing something, there is no place for its sound. Some lighthouses have fog horn (in a most general sense of that word) that blows, for example, three times every 60 seconds, or some other value. It would make sense to me to add this property in order to better describe lighthouses. The name is similar to "light characteristic" (P1030). Huñvreüs (talk) 14:40, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

String is not a suitable datatype given that "one sound every 20 seconds" is an English language description. Item would be a better datatype because it allows easy translation. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 16:22, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

P1030 is supposed to have content like "Fl(3) W 20s" and "Iso W 4s" which is the same in all languages which makes the string datatype appropriate. "one sound every 20 seconds" is clearly an English description. It's not something that it makes sense to show on the infobox in French Wikipedia while showing "Fl(3) W 20s" within French Wikipedia would be fine. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 06:25, 16 August 2022 (UTC)

Yes, this property would need such items as objects and that's why String is an inapproriate datatype and item would be better.

It might be worth thinking about whether P1030 should be replaced by a property that takes items like white light flashing twice every 10 seconds (Q66763983). ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 11:15, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
