I am proposing 3 properties:

• number of part: number of parts the parent statement subject has of the parent statement object
• minimum number of part: minimum number of parts the parent statement subject has of the parent statement object. not needed to imply at least 1
• maximum number of part: maximum number of the the parent statement subject has of the parent statement object. to express infinity, use "no value"

Motivation

The usage of quantity (P1114) as a qualifier is currently conflated.

For example, NS 1000 class (Q201366)country of origin (P495)Switzerland (Q39)quantity (P1114)"3" is saying "there are 3 instances of the parent statement subject this statement applies to".

We've also got list of songs written by Bob Dylan (Q6640133)is a list of (P360)song (Q7366)quantity (P1114)"359" which is saying "there are 359 instances of the parent statement object part of this list/group".

And third, we have p-AMPK alpha [cytosol] (Q50251913)has part(s) (P527)p-T172-PRKAA2 [cytosol] (Q50369221)quantity (P1114)"1" which is also saying the same thing as the previous statement.

The proposed property "number of part" replaces the usage of the second last and last type of usage described above. It, "minimum number of part", and "minimum number of part", will only be able to be used as a qualifier for has part(s) (P527) (is a list of (P360) is a subproperty of this so it can be used on it too). We should replace this usage so that this relationship is machine-readable.

"minimum number of part" and "minimum number of part" are properties we don't have yet to say how many parts an item has.
