Task/s: The main purpose of this bot is to assist the Dutch OTRS-team in their handling of images that are uploaded through Wikiportrait (Wikiportret). For each added image, it adds an interwikilink and a P18- and P373-claim to the item of the person pictured in the processed images.
Code: Github
Function details: as indicated above, this bot will assist the Dutch OTRS-team while processing images that were uploaded to Wikiportret. The bot is designed to operate in a semi-automated way (nowadays, the bot should be manually activated when an upload is done). It performs a couple of tasks on both Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons. On Wikidata, the following tasks will be performed:
- The bot will look up the ID of the item of the person in the uploaded picture. It will at the same time get the claims associated with that item.
- After getting the claims, the bot will post an interwiki-link to the corresponding category on Commons (this category will always carry the same name as the person pictured).
- Subsequently, it will add a P18-claim at the item. Like this, the uploaded image gets coupled to the item. My fellow OTRS-team member DutchTina also modified some of our templates on the Dutch Wikipedia, so that these images get automatically inserted in the articles over there. Before inserting the claim, the script will explicitly check whether the image has not yet been linked.
- Finally, the bot will insert a P373-claim to explicitly link the Wikidata item to the corresponding category on Commons (which will have been set up with an infobox linking to Wikidata). As with the P18-claim, the bot will check whether the requested claim is not yet present.
If anybody would have suggestions on the code, operation... or any questions, please feel free to post them below. --Daniuu (talk) 20:48, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Interesting. At Q28861067, it added a second image (which is fine). I suppose you generally wont receive several images. BTW, if you have the year available, you could add it (sample). --- Jura 21:31, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- We indeed generally deal with images related to articles that do not yet contain one (and don't have one connected in their Wikidata item). Adding the year could indeed be something to add when further developping the bot. Thanks for your feedback, Jura1! --Daniuu (talk) 23:47, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Support Sounds good to me. I imagine this would be pretty low volume? BrokenSegue (talk) 15:28, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- @BrokenSegue: This would indeed be the case. --Daniuu (talk) 16:04, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- I am going to approve the bot in a couple of days provided no objections have been made.--Ymblanter (talk) 19:37, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
