There are currently two series for counties in England, which are not tied together well and get confused:
- ceremonial county of England (Q180673): collective name for areas, in England, to which a Lord Lieutenant is appointed
- according to the name and description, this series is for the "ceremonial county" (ie a present-day embodiment of the county with recent-ish borders and a Lord-Lieutenant (Q914752)),
- however items in this series typically wikilink against articles on English counties in the most general sense, treating them as entities with a continuous history from the 12th century or earlier to the present day, albeit that their boundaries, legal status, centres of government, etc may have changed multiple times during that time. Cf Ship of Theseus (Q1050837).
- items in this series typically have almost all external links.
- historic county of England (Q1138494): geographical designations for areas of England, based on historical traditions
- historic county (P7959) links to these
